Lucerne

Among the Odyssey’s special events is a boat ride on the breath taking Lake Lucerne, cruising by towering mountain peaks. Doing the forbidden, the youthful C.G. Jung once tried to launch a boat on this lake. We will debark in Lucerne, where you are free to explore on your own. You might stroll from the harbor to the Culture and Congress Center designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel. We heartily recommend a visit to the Rosengart Collection, which holds over 200 modernist works — including some 100 by Paul Klee, and 180 by Pablo Picasso. The boat ride back to Rotschuo takes place under the stars.

Rütli Meadow &
The Schillerstein

This trip begins with a boat ride to the old harbor of Trieb, where already in the Middle Ages refugees gained shelter from persecution. We continue by train to a plateau in Seelisberg, and walk onward to the mystical Rütli Meadow. Our return boat cruises by the Schillerstein — a 30-meter-high natural stone obelisque, unreachable by land, and dedicated in 1859 to the author Friedrich Schiller. Here, too, the Swiss hero Wilhelm Tell is said to have plunged into the stormy lake to save himself from capture by the Hapsburgers.
